When executed to its full might, breathwork provides us a powerful catalyst to release stagnated energy that has become trapped in the body. This practice takes us from the faltering "freeze" station of our trauma response and shepherds us towards the expansive freedom of our "fight or flight." It brings us into alignment with a regulated nervous system, which allows us feelings of comfort, release, and deep self-love. The action of conscious breath allows the skins of past traumas to be shed, and brightly illuminates the truths which we, in our hearts, have always known. We allow the clouded mind to clear with each rushing breath, shifting the energy of emotions and traumas to the surface where they can be seen and profoundly acknowledged.
You will lie comfortably on a blanket or yoga mat with eyes closed to move fully towards your inner landscape. The breath itself lasts for 30 minutes, and consists of continued cycles of two sharp inhales and one sharp exhale. Throughout the breath, there will be landmarks where you will be directed to scream, allow long-muted sounds to find their voice, and to allow any body trembling to be expressed. It is normal to cry, to shake, and for the body to move as a way to resolve trauma. Each session lasts 90 minutes, to allow time before the breathwork for verbal expression, and time after for honest reflection.
These sessions provide a safe, secure space to let the feelings that have been suppressed be felt and honored. I act only as a gentle guide through the darkness - the clarity which comes is a gift from your own innate teacher.
